Brown Sugar Bourbon Ribz

Brushed with a brown sugar bourbon sauce and grilled, these ribz are made to be the star of a romantic dinner. Pair with dairy free mac and cheese and flavorful pink slaw.



  • ½ cup (packed) golden brown sugar
  • ½ cup apple butter
  • ¼ cup bourbon whiskey
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3 Tbsp apple cider
  • 2 Tbsp Dijon mustard

Whisk to combine and baste ribz as they grill.

Mac & Cheese

  • ½ cup vegan butter
  • 6 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 14oz cans coconut milk
  • 1 cup vegetable stock
  • 3 Tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 cup nutritional yeast
  • 3 tsp onion powder
  • 3 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • Pasta

Preheat the oven to 400°F

Melt vegan butter in a pot and add in the all-purpose flour stirring vigorously. Add the coconut milk and the vegetable stock. Whisk out the lumps. Keep whisking for a few minutes after it has boiled until it thickens. It will continue to thicken as it cools.

Remove it from the heat and add in the dijon mustard, nutritional yeast, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt and pepper and whisk. Cook your macaroni according to the package directions and then rinse and drain. Add the cooked macaroni into the pot of sauce and toss. Transfer to a 9×13 baking dish and bake for 20 minutes, adding vegan shredded cheese or buttery breadcrumbs if desired.

Pink Slaw

  • 2 cups red cabbage
  • 1 cup green cabbage
  • 1 ½ green apples
  • 2 carrots
  • 3 green onions
  • 2 tbsp salad oil
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • juice of one lime and dash of cayenne
